Ice is Food

Busting up ice yesterday for Jess, I happened to notice the following item on the side of the ice bag:

What am I even looking at? Is this some kind of crazy marketing to try and get ice included as a food category by diet freaks? Am I going to start seeing ice commercials like I do for pistachios?

I had to look into this.

This little logo on the side of the bag comes from the International Packaged Ice Association, who don’t put this on here in an attempt to convince you of the health benefits of frozen water.

Instead, they want you to know that packaged ice is made safely and that isn’t contaminated so you can put it in your drinks and coolers without worry. As long as you washed those containers correctly.

This comes from the IPIA website:

IPIA packaged ice is the gold standard for any consumption or cooling needs. Not only is our ice never touched by human hands, it is manufactured to strict sanitation standards and is lab tested. Look for the IPIA Seal of Approval to ensure the ice you are buying is safe to consume.

Well, the more you know. Right?

I’ll need the ice, especially to cool down after that loss to Alabama…
