The Bojangles problem

I get it. Any job in the service industry sucks these days, with the amount of nasty behavior that people get up to when it comes to their demands for everything to be done immediately thanks to the speed of the internet.

Yet there’s one particular place in Cedartown I think deserves to be criticized heavily. Actually there are several establishments who I think need to work on their food preparation and customer service time, but I’m reserving my ire for just the lone chain who in the mornings cause traffic headaches and the rest of the day can’t be bothered to do anything in a timely fashion.

It doesn’t seem to matter what time of day you are ordering food: whether it be at the drive thru for your biscuit craving, middle of the day for lunch or a chicken dinner in the evening. The time it takes to get food from Bojangles is ridiculous.

What bugs me about it is the following: decisions made by ownership of the company are the real reason for these problems for the most part, not the staff locally. They are doing the best they can without having an adequate amount of staff. That isn’t to say there aren’t people who are on their phones while I’m waiting for my food while cars stack up waiting for their order in parking spots or in the line. I’ve seen it.

Don’t believe me? Here are three vehicles parked and waiting for their food after I got my lunch order:

Honestly, why is this happening?

Some of it is apparently based on a sign that I saw right in front of the register that reads “make smaller batches more often.” Translation: there’s never enough food on hand for the amount of people you are trying to serve. And we want to make it look like employees are always busy. But then if you look closer, you can clearly see half of the folks are standing around and doing not a thing to make your order go faster.

It doesn’t help their cause any when they get orders completely wrong, which I watched happen in front of me when a lady was checking her food. They had to redo her order in front of her. Two other guys in front of me who needed to be back to work complained too. When I walked up to retrieve the order I was hoping was already available, I was instead greeted with “I don’t have anymore online orders” to then have to show the email to the young lady, who had her oops moment and informed me I don’t have any chicken for you yet.

I have ordered online. I have ordered in person. I have ordered in the drive thru. I feel lucky if I get out of Bojangles in 20 minutes time.

Today’s order was made at 1:02 pm, and I didn’t leave the restaurant until 1:41 pm. More than a 30 minute wait on an online order? That is not fast food anymore.

And it doesn’t matter either that you have been waiting for longer than you should have while others who ordered after you are being served first.

The bad experience of Bojangles lack of timely service happens every time I go, and the only reason I give them any of my money is because the chicken is darn tasty. But it is getting harder and harder to justify the expense when fact is Bojangles is fast food but obviously can’t be bothered to provide customers with a timely experience.

So I’m not saying this is my last trip to Bojangles, but it is definitely now on the bottom of my list for food choices when cooking takes too much time.

I hope they get better, but based on the past half dozen experiences I’ve had with them, I’m not hopeful.
